If you know me, you know I adopted two older kids who came from some troubling circumstances. What you may not realize is what those years of raising them were like. To say it was difficult would be like comparing climbing Mount Everest to walking up my steep driveway. It was beyond that. I had to allow myself to lose friends, step away from family, and completely drop social media to focus every scintilla of my being on them (and on what I could do to preserve myself) without giving away what I was doing or what we were all going through.
I spent my spare time learning as much as I could about mental health and emotional wellness. I’ll be sharing that knowledge with you to help on your own journeys. It will take some time to flesh everything out, but we can start here: DBT therapy is something you can do on your own. This website is free and offers a lot of resources to get you started. You can find free books and workbooks like this one and videos like these to guide you along the way. There are also free group settings and a social VR app created by Jewel (yes, the singer) that you can use to support your progress even further.
Eventually, there will be more here, but everyone can benefit when they learn the skills that DBT therapy teaches. That’s why I’ve started by sharing DBT resources. Even small steps toward understanding yourself better can make a real difference. You’re not alone in this, and every bit of progress counts.
For a quick reset when you need it, I have a few tools I can teach you quickly. Take a look at these:
